The colony's webbing caught the party's fall and saved their lives, and rather than eat them the matron negotiated. The deal was honoured on both sides: the party killed the angler, the spiders took the corpse and pointed them toward civilization.

Lia found the whole arrangement deeply unnatural and took it as evidence that everything in the Abyss is corrupted — spiders do not make deals. Lux argued it simply meant they were sentient, and that the ability to talk saved everyone a fight they would have lost.

The spiders left the party's camp alone overnight. Their read on the party, spun into the web where Lia could read it: 'We don't like bipeds, they taste funny.'
