The artifact Nathara carried and died to protect. It is not large — smaller than the anglerfish orb the party previously found — but it radiates a compulsion that reaches at least sixty feet and passes through a sealed ice block without difficulty.
Those who touch it gain a tattoo and a permanent link. Shim described feeling as though he could push himself past his physical or mental limits by drawing on it, the energy coming from somewhere else as well as from himself. The party's working theory is that it draws power at a price, and that the price is spread across everyone bound to it.
Nathara said the drow would accept the party at the city if they brought it, and that they must not let "them" — presumably the First Blood Court — have it.
